Police in the UK are investigating claims a group of teenagers are killing cats as part of an initiation ceremony in a small country town.
At least five cats have been killed in Cinderford, Gloucestershire, since mid-February.
They've either been slaughtered or suffered injuries so bad they've had to be put down.
A spokesman for Gloucestershire Police said: 'We've received information this may be part of an initiation test for a local gang of teenagers and we're making inquiries into that now.
'We understand these incidents are deeply disturbing and we ask the community for any information they can give us.
Reports have also been made by the public of cats being shot at in recent weeks with one injured and another killed Hilldene.
Cinderford Town councillor and taxi driver Mark Turner said the people responsible were 'sick' and needed to be caught.
He said: 'It is very shocking and very worrying.
'Another cat has been shot it seems which means there is somebody walking around with a pellet gun who may use it on a child next time.
'You can't imagine it happening in a place like Cinderford, it's terrible.
'It is so brazen doing it in the street. They need to be caught.'
