A teenager killed himself after fatally shooting his friend by accident while playing around with a firearm, police and eyewitnesses said.
Marsavious Frazier and Daqarion Hunter, both 17, were found in a remote alley in Kalamazoo with gunshot wounds around 9 p.m. Monday, cops said. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
It was not immediately clear who fired the lethal shots but an eyewitness told investigators one of the teens caught a bullet after a gun was being "played with."
The second teen then became "distraught" before turning the gun on himself, the same witness said, adding there was no argument or scuffle before the shooting.
Kalamazoo Police Department Captain Victor Ledbetter said the gun appeared to not be properly registered and urged residents to think about the damage a gun can cause when in the wrong hands.
Frazier's grief-stricken mother took to Facebook after hearing what happened.
"Never thought I would have to say good bye to my favorite guy," Alisa Watkins-Monroe captioned a photo depicting her son as a child.
"Our bond is a forever bond," she said in a separate post. "He will always be my baby boy!!"
Hunter studied law enforcement at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, according to his Facebook page, which featured a slew of pictures of him playing basketball and football.
Both victims were Kalamazoo Public Schools students, according to a statement released by the school district's superintendent Tuesday morning.
