A pastor is behind bars awaiting trial for allegedly raping teenager in revenge after the mother refused to sleep with the church leader.

The mum said since police arrested this pastor of an Ekurhuleni church on Thursday, other women have also come forward with claims that he asked them for sex.

The mum and daughter from Daveyton in Ekurhuleni, east of Johannesburg can't be named for legal reasons.

The woman said she thought the preacher raped her 14-year-old daughter as revenge for her refusing him sex.

"He made a move on me to be his nyatsi, but I refused," she said.

"Our relationship in the church has been sour since then.

"We respected him as our spiritual father, but he didn't give the respect back."

She said her daughter was raped when she went to church to prepare for the Easter holiday activities.



She told her mum and aunt that the pastor raped her repeatedly in a room at the church.

The mum added that this wasn't the pastor's first sex scandal at the church.

"He was found chatting about sex in phone messages with another teenager in the church."

The mum said when she told church elders about it that the allegations were swept under the carpet.

"I want him to be jailed," she said.

The church's archbishop said the pastor has brought shame to the congregation and everyone was angry.

"We trusted him and never thought he would do something like that, especially in the church,"said the archbishop.

Constable Zunickha Essakjee confirmed that a rape case was opened and a suspect was arrested. She said the suspect will appear in court soon to face rape charges.
